I have just posted my 25th Design File on the website (find them under Other Writing). These are extended versions of my Design Files that are broadcast on Radio National’s By Design and appear on the Radio National website each week. I love them as they give me a little more space to explore the history of an object or design movement.  I’m always amazed at the tiny histories contained within an item and particularly enjoy them when they are everyday objects. For instance, every time I use the simple wooden pepper mill in my kitchen (in other words, every day) I think: wow, this was invented 170 years ago. It’s a small and simple pleasure.
